Buzz Woeckener

Former Director Identity Security
Nationwide

As the former Director of Identity Security at Nationwide, Buzz led a global team of over 30 associates across multiple cities and countries, driving strategy and execution for internal identity security across both human and non-human identities (NHI). He was responsible for ensuring seamless regulatory compliance while enabling secure, efficient access across the enterprise.

Over more than six years in this role, Buzz built a reputation for proactively partnering with internal and external auditors to demonstrate compliance and rapidly resolve findings. He is known for designing innovative solutions and driving them through execution while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Prior to this role, Buzz led Nationwide’s Cyber Security Command Center for over 2.5 years, overseeing seven specialized cybersecurity teams and more than 90 security professionals. These teams delivered critical capabilities including Vulnerability Management, Threat Intelligence, Identity Administration, Attack and Penetration Testing, Digital Forensics, Cyber Defense, and a 24x7 Security Operations Center. During this time, he strengthened the enterprise security posture by ensuring operations were proactive, resilient, and aligned with the highest standards of cybersecurity and risk management.

Buzz also serves on multiple technology boards, supporting organizations, particularly non-profits and SMBs, in building and maturing identity security programs where access to specialized expertise may be limited.

Buzz is passionate about developing high-performing teams, advancing modern identity and cybersecurity practices, and delivering secure, scalable solutions that enable business growth. He holds certifications in Lean Leader Management, is a certified trainer and coach with The John Maxwell Team and is ITIL Service Operation certified.
